Edward Mortimer,
former foreign affairs editor of the Financial Times (1987-98),
recently Chief Speechwriter and Director of Communications for the UN
Secretary-General (1998-2006); currently Senior Vice President and
Chief Program Officer at the Salzburg Seminar. Also the author of
several books including Faith
and Power: the Politics of Islam (1982), The World That FDR Built
(1989), and monographs including European
Security After the Cold War (Adelphi Paper, 1992) and A Few Words on Intervention
(1995); and co-editor of People,

Sir
Kieran Prendergast, former Under
Secretary-General and Head of the Department of Political Affairs,
United Nations 1997-2005, during which period he was the
Secretary-General's principal adviser on the prevention, containment
and resolution of conflict and dealt with a wide range of crises; also
former British Ambassador to Turkey and British High Commissioner to
Kenya and Zimbabwe.
