The philosophy
of Independent Diplomat
is that the common good, peace
and prosperity are promoted by clear communication and good diplomacy.
Advice from experienced and professional diplomats can help prevent and
ameliorate conflict, improve human conditions and contribute to common
understanding of shared problems. The accent will be on help to those
who need it most: the disadvantaged, politically-oppressed and
economically-marginalised. The guiding principle of ID will be the
minimisation of human suffering.
An additional
aspect of ID's work is
to expand the tools of diplomacy
beyond conventional institutional techniques. Innovative use of the
media, creative negotiation and presentational techniques can help
promote issues that are ignored in the conventional discourse.
Code of Ethics
Independent
Diplomat will always operate within international law and will not
assist those promoting violence. Its assistance is designed to help
those with legitimate needs articulate those needs in international
forums, and thereby to help reduce the risk of conflict.
ID additionally
requires that its clients are committed to democratic and accountable
government and to the protection of human rights.
Independent
Diplomat staff respect the confidentiality of ID’s work and
are bound by this code and not by any other loyalty to governments or
other bodies. ID will act without regard to race, religion or gender.
ID is a
politically neutral and
independent facilitator and will not countenance any conduct which
seeks to undermine or compromise that status.
